| "Hi
Brother Jim, It is hard to believe but in less that a week, both my Dad and I (your remember him) have experienced the same hurricane, yet we are nearly a thousand miles apart. Hurricane Rita brushed by us here in the Florida Keys, (about 60 miles away) on Tuesday. Then this morning, Hurricane Rita, went RIGHT OVER MY DAD'S home in Jasper, Texas. They had 100 mile per hour winds and rain. Lucky, my 94 year old Dad lives in a brick house on a small incline. There was no boarding up of windows, since most people up until almost the last minute thought the hurricane would hit Houston and Galveston, not Beaumont. But then, we were not facing the hurricane's wrath, nor will water cause any damage. He lost the car port but they were going to remodel that anyway. Also down in the islands we got wind, a little water, but I live on the third floor of the same building that the radio station is in, a hurricane proof building, so we got off lucky also. So life is good. Diving again for lobster next week once the water clears up. |
| At the heart of the storm this
morning in Jasper (never lost phone service),
my Dad said, "Soon as this lets up a tad, (at
the time the winds were about 100 miles per hour), lets get
out, I gotta get my weekly lottery ticket!" |
| Down here in the Keys, we had signs we held up as the 8 FEMA helicopters went over that said, "Send Ice! Over stock of beer to last out the hurricane getting warm! |

| Just got off phone with him (Dad). They have moved about 60 miles north to be with a relative on my Step Mothers side that has another home, and that has power and air. So they are out of the problem area. In Jasper, they don't expect power for up to 3 weeks! |
| I talked to the local radio station owner Mike Lout of KJAS this morning. As an independent station, he and a very small staff have been on the air around the clock. They are the heroes, the small radio stations, that give all in time of need. My hat is off to them. |
| If there is any need to check Jasper, Texas, contact: Mike Lout, www.kjas.com and mlout@kjas.com. Though I think their server is down right now. Their phone is 409-384-2626 if anyone has need to contact the area of Jasper, Texas. |
